Hurricane Irene - status update

The Maryland Emergency Management Agency announced that the first signs of Hurricane Irene arrived in Ocean City Saturday morning with light rain and 30-mph winds. The eye of the storm is slated to hit near Ocean City around 8pm tonight and be off the coast by 2am.  The State currently has about 1,200 people relocated from Ocean City at the Fifth Regiment Armory.

The Mass Transit Administration said that Light Rail will be shutting down @ 6 p.m. tonight.  ALL other services will shut down @ 9 p.m. tonight.  Mobility service will be operational to assist with dialysis patients.


Baltimore City should expect Tropical Storm Winds gusting to 70-75 mph, resulting in downed trees and local flooding.  Also expected are interruptions to power and phone service.  Baltimore City activated the following shelters at 12noon:
