City Declares Code RED - Emergency Cooling Centers Open - UPDATED

The heat has led Commissioner of Health Dr. Oxiris Barbot to declare a Code Red Heat Alert Day in Baltimore City through Sunday.  As part of the heat alert, the city will open emergency cooling centers each day with cool air and water from 9am to 7pm on weekdays.  (Only the Community Action Program centers will be open on weekends, from 11am to 7pm.)

Community Action Program will operate these five centers:

• Northern Community Action Center, 5225 York Road (in our district!)

•Southern Community Action Center, 606 Cherry Hill Road

•Northwest Community Action Center, 3939 Reisterstown Road

•Southeastern Community Action Center, 3411 Bank St.

•Eastern Community Action Center, 1400 East Federal St.


The Health Department’s Office of Aging and CARES will also operate cooling centers:

•Waxter Center, 1000 Cathedral St.

•Oliver Center, 1700 Gay St.

•Sandtown-Winchester Center, 1601 Baker St.

•Hatton Center, 2825 Fait Ave.

•John Booth, 229 ½ South Eaton St.

•Zeta Center, 4501 Reisterstown Road
