Post-Storm Update - July 1st, 2:30pm
.
Okay, here we go:
As of 2:26pm, 76,090 customers in Baltimore City remain without power. Restorations continue and for 60,337 customers, power has been restored. Full restoration is estimated to be a long-term operation lasting several more days.
Many traffic signals are still off-the-grid; DoT has hooked up generators at all major intersections, but the generators will sometimes run out of fuel before the refueling truck gets back to them. Motorists should use extreme caution when encountering an intersection with disabled signals and should treat it as a four-way stop.
The City has worked through the night, clearing trees from blocked roadways and utility lines. There are two chipper crews, eight DoT crews, two Rec & Park crews, five DPW crews, and seventeen contractor crews working on the hundreds of trees still blocking roadways.
The City is giving away ice at the following locations:
1500 Havenwood Road (Northwood Shopping Center)
4501 Reisterstown Road
1700 N. Gay Street
1601 Baker Street
The Northern District Community Action Center - co-located with my district office at 5225 York Road - is back open as a Cooling Center, now that power has been restored. The Center is open from 11am to 7pm, providing air-conditioned comfort and bottled water, free of charge!
