Ignite Baltimore Grants Available for New Projects in Baltimore City

Ignite Baltimore is now offering $4500 to fund two Ignition Grants (of up to $2,250 each) to support new, innovative projects aimed at improving Baltimore City. Applications must be submitted by September 30, 2012. More information is available here: http://www.ignitebaltimore.com/grant.

Ignite Baltimore is a local event where speakers are given 20 slides, each shown for 15 seconds, giving each speaker 5 minutes of fame. Based on the event started by O’Reilly Media in Seattle in 2006, Ignite Baltimore has become a local phenomenon with tickets selling out within hours of being made available.

The Ignition Grants, funded by proceeds from Ignite Baltimore ticket sales, intend to inspire individuals to take action as well as spark and reward creative ideas that address the City’s social and economic challenges. Past grants have supported:
  • supplies for low-earning women, who are using their crafting skills to generate income, so that they could sell their products at farmers’ markets;
  • interviews with people who are homeless to encourage understanding of the experience of homelessness;
  • a filmmaking course for youth in the Walbrook neighborhood;
  • video tours of Baltimore’s parks and trails; and
  • development of a website to showcase Baltimore’s dance community.
All are encouraged to apply, including youth and those living outside of Baltimore, as long as their project aims to make Baltimore a better place to live and work and will be carried out in the City. Please note: projects must be new and distinct and completed within a six month period.
