Pre-Sandy Update - Sunday afternoon


The City of Baltimore is likely to sustain a significant impact from Hurricane Sandy beginning Monday morning, through the next few days.  Preparedness activities are currently underway to mitigate any potential loss of life, property damage, and harm to the environment that may occur.

Baltimore City Public Schools will be closed tomorrow.

Weather Forecast -

•   Sunday: Showers, mainly after 2pm. High near 62. Breezy, with a north wind 18 to 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.

•   Sunday Night: Rain could be heavy at times. Low around 54. Windy, with a north wind
23 to 28 mph increasing to 29 to 34 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

•   Monday:  Rain and Wind. Most significant impact on Monday morning; 5-10 inches of rain; moderate to major flooding creeks and streams; High near 55. Damaging winds out of North increasing Monday morning (around dawn) to 35-45 mph with gusts of 50-60 mph on Monday afternoon and will continue through Tuesday morning.

•   Currently in a high wind warning and flood watch, with potentially a 2-3 feet storm surge in Baltimore City.
