As the note holder, Baltimore City held a foreclosure auction for the Senator Theatre on July 22, at which it was the winning bidder. After any foreclosure auction is held, the Circuit Court must issue a Notice of Sale, at which time there begins a 30-day period in which the current property owner can contest the sale.
In the case of the Senator Theatre, the Circuit Court issued the Notice of Sale on August 19, so the 30-day period expires on September 18. The City is waiting until this 30-day period expires before having the BDC issue the RFP. The BDC expects to release the RFP the week of September 21.
The Notice of Sale is required to appear once in each of three successive weeks in a local newspaper, on or before September 9. The notices will be published in the Daily Record.
In the meantime, Tom Kiefaber is operating the theater and offering shows which will continue to attract patrons, and BDC is taking care of BGE expenses and repairs to the marquee lighting.
