CPHA Task Force on Alcohol Outlet Density Reduction: Thursday, August 15, 6:00 p.m.
With zoning legislation going to City Council this
September, Baltimore residents finally have an opportunity to decrease the
number of alcohol stores in Baltimore and improve the way this city regulates
the sale of alcohol in our neighborhoods.
Citizens Planning and Housing Association is
forming a Task Force on Alcohol Outlet Density Reduction to ensure City Council supports the portion of legislation within the zoning
code rewrite that will reduce alcohol outlet density in our neighborhoods.
Baltimore neighborhoods with more alcohol stores are
generally associated with greater poverty, shorter life expectancy, and higher
rates of violent crime. To read more click here. Many Baltimore neighborhoods,
especially lower income African American Communities, are saturated with Liquor
Stores. Find more information here.
The Purpose of the Task Force is to:
1. Organize
residents across Baltimore to attend City Council hearings on zoning
legislation related to alcohol establishments
2. Suggest ways in
which City Council can make alcohol zoning legislation more effective
3. Make sure City
Council passes the portion of the zoning code rewrite that will reduce the
number of alcohol outlets in Baltimore
Our first meeting will be this Thursday, August 15th, 6:00pm, at CPHA’s Downstairs Conference Room
(3355 Keswick Road)
If you would like to join this task force, please contact
Michael Snidal, Director of Community Engagement for Citizens Planning and
Housing Association, Inc (410-539-1369, x. 109; Michael@cphabaltimore.org)
We hope this task force will ignite future movements to
improve the health of our City and allow for community associations and
resident leaders from across Baltimore to gather.
