Charles Street Reconstruction Update


Please see below for the latest update regarding the DETOUR Start Date and parking restrictions for the Charles Street Reconstruction Project.  This update can also be found at the project’s website, www.charlesstreetreconstruction.com.  Please tell all fellow community members to check the website for the most up to date information.



Parking Restrictions:

On Wednesday, September 12 and Thursday, September 13 there will be parking restrictions on the west side of Charles Street between 29th St and 33rd St for tree removal.  Please watch for signs regarding parking restrictions.

Detour Start Dates:

Southbound Charles Street: Closed as of September 5, 2012.

Northbound Charles Street lane narrowing between 28th Street and University Parkway: On or about  September 24, 2012, weather permitting.

The goals of the Charles Street Reconstruction Project are to create more balanced traffic patterns, increase pedestrian and bicycle safety, upgrade aging infrastructure, improve signage, support business revitalization, and enhance the character and beauty of the area. The project area is on Charles Street (a designated National Scenic Byway) from 25th Street to University Parkway. This is a $28 million project led by the Baltimore City Department of Transportation, using federal and local funds and a contribution by the Johns Hopkins University.
